Ian Mikardo (1908-1993) was a left-wing Labour MP who was first elected to Parliament in 1945 and remained an MP - with breaks - until 1987. He was generally known as 'Mik'. I interviewed him in 1990 at his home in St John's Wood for a radio documentary about the changing political loyalties of the British Jewish community - you can find it on this page, click and scroll down. He talks about his own political development in the East End of London as well as the reasons for the community's shift from left to right.
