For a couple of years when I was based in Delhi for the BBC (1995-1997) I wrote a fortnightly column for the Asian Age, a daily paper which published not only in India but in the UK as well. It was edited at the time by M.J. Akbar. My remit was to write (broadly) on the Indian news media, 'dog eat dog' so to speak - and I enjoyed the challenge of writing regularly for print, and the status of having a column which featured my mugshot.
